Matt Winder, You Have No Clue

I was just watching CBC Newsworld and they were showing some quotations from viewers. One struck me as not just politically extreme like the rest, but also incredibly stupid. Given how incredibly stupid I thought it was I went to the CBC's website to find the quote and I struck gold. Here it is in it's entirety.

"Chuck Cadman has done democracy a huge disservice today. He based his vote on a poll conducted in his riding. This is cowardice and injustice all rolled into one!It is my understanding that the poll asked people if they wanted an election. Maybe the poll question should have been "Is an NDP budget good for Canada?" I think Mr. Cadman might have received a different answer.I lost all faith in the Canadian system of government today. The economic fate of our country was just decided by a poll conducted on 600 constituents of one riding in the country and the question was flawed.Considering that this followed weeks of vote buying and back room deals by Paul Martin, I have to ask, was Cadman on the take? What kind of quid pro quo was arranged here? I don't know what to think anymore. Some people didn't want to go to the polls? Apathy and laziness have trumped doing the right thing in Canada today".

So Matt Winder from Camlachie, Ontario you feel Chuck Cadman has done democracy a huge disservice today? Interesting, because you also seem to be complaining that rather than doing what you wanted him to do, he did what the people who elected him wanted him to do. Seems to me his democratic responsibility is to his constituents and to no one else. Like it or lump it, he had every right to vote either way on "an NDP budget" as an independent MP and if his constituents are as you call them apathetic and lazy, and told their MP they didn't want an election, then that is democracy.

As for the backroom vote buying, the allegations so far seem quite empty. Remember, any offer of a position in exchange for a vote would be a crime, so if these conservatives actually have proof they would be required to hand this over as evidence. I'd like to see that happen.

Now I have something new for you to chew on, less than a year ago, this government was democratically elected to a term no longer than five years. I didn't cast my vote expecting to have to vote again the same time next year. I'm not a liberal, but I'd rather a stable government that survives at least one year. Also, don't we deserve a budget? Or would the conservatives prefer we just skip a year? Mind boggling.

Finally, it isn't even in the Conservative's best interest to go into an election right now. While they may have had a slight lead in polls when Stephen Harper started this whole nightmare several weeks ago, that national lead has evaporated and they have actually lost support in Ontario. They may have woken up their base, but Alberta already only has two non-Conservative ridings now, so that isn't much to lose, plus one of the ridings is David Kilgore's, who left the liberals, so that seat is fairly unpredictable. Uniting your base means nothing when you also piss off everyone else. So think about that Matt Winder, then go back to living under your rock where you can make the truth whatever you want it to be.

Keep on Trangling,
Anthony Pereira

Nam- thanks. I don't know how true it is that I've been blogging for a year. I started a year ago, but I have an average of much less than one a week.

Adria- As you can see I'm movin' on up! Sorry you had to find out from someone else, I was trying to keep it on the D/L until I opened up KPO.ca today.
