Immortalized

John Candy is on a postage stamp. I know, that's cuh-razy!

I went to the post office to buy some stamps so I could be Ryan's pen-pal while he is off in the East (of Ontario) doing whatever it is he is doing. I just wanted ten of the regular Friendly Looking but Still Regal Portraits of the Queen or Gently Falling Maple Leaves or whatever regular run-of-the-stamp-mill stamps Canada Post is currently distributing, but apparently they were all out. Before I could fully comprehend the Post Office actually running out of stamps, I was offered a set of eight "Collector" stamps and matching envelope seals entitled "Canadians In Hollywood". They didn't cost more than eight regular stamps would, so I took them.

When I got it home and opened it up to use a stamp, I saw John Candy and pooped. I don't remember how I reacted, but it was probably something like, "John freaking Candy? Wow!" Weirder even than JC (coincidence, I think not!) being on a stamp, is who is also in the set; "America's Sweetheart" and the Queen of silent film, Mary Pickford; some guy I've never heard of, but it turns out he was in Bonanza (I don't think that qualifies him to be in the set really) Lorne Greene; and damsel in distress, King Kong's Fay Wray. A fairly diverse bunch, though it isn't all that impressive. I guess some of Canada's many current celebrities need to start dieing so we can make a really complete set of stamps.
