I don't like the guy who cleans the washroom because he talks to me. I wish we had the Indian lady that cleans downstairs; she seems fairly silent.
While I admit that I am a horrible person, I also think it partially stems from the awkwardness of someone I don't even know talking to me when I get out of the shower, or while I brush my teeth, or as I wash my hands after a much needed morning wee. I don't even talk to my own neighbour in the washroom, or anywhere else for that matter (the French one, not Nadia).
I also hate that a few people here are so friendly that they actually let him converse with them (if one can even call it conversing). My room is very near the washroom so I regularly hear these "conversations" (actually they usually wake me up) and they are depressing. The cleaning guy rambles on and on about something really creepy while my fellow student makes a polite "uh-huh" or "oh" now-and-then.
He talks about drinking a lot. Today he discussed the superiority of Quebec's alcohol regulations vs. Ontario's with my neighbour. He was very angry with the Government of Ontario the French girl was uncomfortable.
After Christmas he told some random guy from B-house about the amazing Christmas gift he got- A Sony radio Walkman and how it was much better than the one he got himself at the dollar store he continuously had to replace. He lamented that it couldn't "play CDs like the new ones" but said it was pretty good anyways... What kind of fucking poverty does this man live in? And what rock does he live under? Comparing it to a CD walkman? Can you even buy those anymore? I don't mean to knock the gift. I'm glad he has a friend or relative nice enough to buy him a Christmas gift, and I'm glad he has a reliable source of music to listen to as he works. I don't know the details of his life, so I don't know why he wouldn't have the resources to buy himself a decent portable radio, I can't imagine even a Sony costing much more than $20. He is single, but maybe he has child support payments to make, that is a possibility. He has a full-time job with a stable employer though, so how poor can the man be? Toronto is expensive, but not that expensive. For single mothers working for temp agencies yes, but I have a hard time fathoming that York University pays its full time cleaning staff a poverty wage. Ok, maybe it's not that difficult to fathom, this is a bastard school after-all.
The funniest thing I ever overheard him talk about was how he planned on going to Alabama soon to meet the women he had been talking to on the internet for several years. That's cool by me. There is nothing wrong with two consenting adults making some sweet internet loving. The hilarious part is his lesson to the listener about security when meeting an internet lover in person. He demanded it was necessary to exchange all sorts of ID with the other person in advance of the trip to make sure they were real: driver's license numbers, Social Insurance numbers, date of birth. I was just waiting for the guy to say "credit card numbers and expiration dates". What a shmuck. I bet his identity has already been stolen and he hasn't realized it yet.
The funniest encounter I ever had with him personally went a little something like this, "My God! Is that an electric toothbrush?! What will they think of next? How does it even work, it doesn't have a cord or anything!"
I wouldn't care if 0 out of 5 dentists had recommended my Braun AdvancePower, it turned out to be the most amusing $17 I've ever spent.
Keep on Tranglin,
Anthony
P.S. I fixed the podcast for last week's 27MoWN, it should now play the whole show, not just the first 6 minutes and I have posted yesterday's equally hilarious hour of hijinks.

In response to this weeks radio show, Lindsey Lowhan was in Bobby, a adult movie that did not include her showing her vajayjay
i hate talking to him too! i don't mind saying hi to the cleaning staff... hell, i'll have a conversation with them if we have something to talk about, but that creep just LOVES to hear himself speak. I don't think he even cares if anyone is listening. I avoid leaving my room if I know he's there.
I'm an equally awful person.
Maybe he's ... not quite mentally stable. In that case, I'm glad your university put a deranged person in your bathroom.
Wait, how do you know he's even a real employee??? Maybe he just hangs out in there...
This has the makings of a B horror flick.
i'm also a horrible person, don't feel bad.
Where is the music? What have you done with the music? Why did you take the music away?!
Did this guy just wake up from his 1983 coma?
Dianna, it's "Lohan" but you used the word "vajayjay, so I automatically forgive you.
Nadia, I'm generally not up yet when he is cleaning. I still haven't figured out why they clean in the morning, when the washroom is busy. Shouldn't they washrooms be cleaned in the afternoon, when people are in classes?
Ubie, he is completely harmless. I could take him easily. I don't think he weighs much more than 125 pounds.
Loz, I don't. Not even a little. I hate the guy.
Melanie, I had to get rid of the music player when I changed templates. The player didn't fit in the smaller margin. If there is enough demand I can create a link to a blank page with the player I guess.
Spinning Girl, I think he has been in a crack-induced haze since about then.
maybe he's so poor and has such a crappy (pun) job because his identity was already stolen.
Who pays 17 dollars for a tooth brush? Fucking madness.
Ryan, I overheard someone talking about him yesterday and it was said the man was an ex-convict and a crack-addict. I'm glad I keep my door locked, though he does have a key... Good joke though, it gave me a chuckle.
Becca, yay! Humans are terrible!
Nick, it is a real electric toothbrush, the kind with an internal rechargable battery and a little stand and replacement heads. That is about as cheap as they come.
