And Here's to You Mrs. Robinson...

I should have been in bed looooooong ago, but I just found out that Anne Bancroft passed away Monday at the age of 73 of cancer. I can't say that I know a whole lot about Anne Bancroft, other than her most famous role, and that she was the wife of the genius Mel Brooks. Her most famous role was, of course, that of Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate. Watching the Graduate as a teenager I was utterly enthralled by the story of a young man seduced and then entrapped by an older smarter woman. In fact it's a story that still mesmerizes me (yeah I know, I'm barely not a teenager)...

"Do you want me to seduce you?"

The owner of one of the worlds most famous legs, Anne Bancroft was more than just a MILF to me. Every time I watch The Graduate I hope and hope and hope that THIS time, somehow, Ben (the young Dustin Hoffman) will end up with Mrs. Robinson instead of her prissy bitch daughter. I want an alternate ending where he runs out of the Church with Mrs. Robinson instead and they get on the bus and she says something like "Really, Ben. Was that ENTIRELY necessary?"

I know it sounds deranged, but something about Mrs. Robinson's motherliness captivates me. Whether it was the way she spoke down to Ben, or her calmness throughout their encounters (until he ends it of course) I fell for Mrs. Robinson as easily as he did. Even the way she removes her earring to answer the phone gives me shivers. It's almost like in Breakfast at Tiffany's when Holly walks through the door asking "How do I look?" Hmm... I think in that case there is also an earring involved. I am odd.

It's beginning to dawn on me that I'm in love with Mrs. Robinson and not Anne Bancroft, and I do apologise. However, as a person who has acted multiple roles I know every character has a least a little bit of the actor in him or her and in the case of Mrs. Robinson, while Ms. Bancroft may have been an entirely different person I don't think there ever could be another Mrs. Robinson.

With that I say farewell to the actress who introduced me to the Older Woman, and thank her for her great contributions to the world of cinema and to me.

Anne Bancroft 1931-2005

Keep on Trangling,

Anthony

indeed, it seems like we lose another of the great ones each year .. and the current and new-comers just aren't really all that and a bag of chips.

agreed nam.

Nam: sad but true. I blame Lukas and Speilberg for making the B movie the A movie. Hollywood wouldn't know art if they got smacked in the face with a Picasso.

now, now you two .. let's not blame lukas & co for the lack of great entertainers (except for sarah michelle gellar).

i think we have the government to blame .. they stifle the art of pornography. and speaking off, how come i haven't seen much of SEXUALLY EXPLICIT CONTENT on this blog yet?

(ask adria, she knows what i mean!)

*sniffle, sniffle* unlike 90 percent of hollywood couples, they were married for 40-something years. anyone that could stay with a husband that would make "blazing saddles" has got to be an angel.(I love that movie, but twisted sense of humor)

she paved the way for MILFs everywhere....

rest in peace sweet lady...

i think he means that you should post nude photos of yourself.

that was his advice for me and it worked like a charm.

you see, my experience with blogging is that if you don't post enough SEXUALLY EXPLICIT CONTENT on your blog, then your sit gets reviewed by the folks at blogger.com -- and they may yank your site to punish you for not keeping it 'interesting enough' -- you see blogs are monitored by various governmental agencies (SEC, FCC, CIA, KGB, DoD, RCMP, etc.) and they need something to read while searching for WMD.

i believe this has happened to KALLUN, DIADIMA, LOVE HURTS, ME and other; thus, it is imperative that you post some SEXUALLY EXPLICIT CONTENT immediately. PORN will suffice.

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't seen The Graduate yet. I've always meant to, but never got around to it...

Humanity- Thanks, I'll be sure to check out your blog bright and early tommorow morning.

lilred- I think they are a great example of a Hollywood couple in it for more than the publicity. It's so rare for a marriage to last that long in normal life, let alone in the film biz.

Dia- I'm not only camera shy, I'm also a bit public penis showing shy. Maybe I'll post a picture of my ankle or calf. I don't know about you people but that might get some Victorians hot and bothered.

Nam- Well if you'll be satisfied with any old SEXUALLY EXPLICIT CONTENT...

Kallun- You've really been missing out. It's a gem of a film. The acting, directing and writing are all perfect and the Simon and Garfunkle soundtrack can't be beat.
